Why does Heroes and Flash Forward begin with recaps, and end with a teaser?

A lot of shows do. They usually do it both for people who missed an episode and to point out certain points from the last episode that will be important in the current one. As for the teasers, why would you not want to know what the next episode is about? They want to keep you on the edge of your seat for the next week.
