Can someone help me with with DVD players?

I have recorded movies on to dvd discs with my computer and my inkjet printer has the capability to print labels I create right on to printable discs, but in at least 2 dvd players I have problems getting them to play right. The picture look all choppy and digital like a Satellite picture looks when raining. It even freezes at times. Am I using the wrong kind of discs? Wrong kind of dvd player? I thought maybe...only certain kind of dvd players would play these kinds of discs, but I just don't know. Can any of you smart electronic gurus out there help me. Please! Thanks in advance!
