Is Anyone having Zhu Zhu Problems?

I need help...I brought my granddaughter a zhu zhu pet for Christmas and it does not work. I have replaced the batteries 3 times but the only time it makes sounds is if you push the head and back on at the same time. The motor has never worked on it. It is Mr. Squiggles. I am very disappointed in this. I can't return it because I brought it off of someone on Craigslist, but the package had never been opened. Is there hope for this zhu zhu pet or should I just trash it?
